Seats

02/10/2001

We decided to go with the highback poly seats, but first they require some modification, as they are a bit wide. After much test fitting and chin scratching, we decided that with some heat applied to soften strategic areas, we could use a pipe to form a channel so that they would fit. With the help of Justin, my father-in-law, we first placed the seat so that we could mark the area to be modified, then used a heat gun to gently heat the area, being careful not to let the plastic bubble, just soften. We then took a 1.5 inch pipe and pushed it into the plastic, forming a groove much like the one in your favorite chair.

The carefully formed groove...

The seats put in place, not bolted yet.

The seats will need a little more modification to actually fit, but we effectively took about 1 inch out of the overall width of each one. Another .5 out of the inside edge of each and they should fit like a glove.

We also got some seat belts from Jeg's Performance. They were a bargain at 65 bucks each for what you see here, and seem to be a very high quality part.

More to come in this area!
